Macerata

Macerata lies in the hills of the Marche region and is the capital of the same province. The town’s symbol is the Arena Sferisterio, an open-air theatre dating back to 1829. It was intended for a sports game called Palla al bracciale, a ball game played with a spiked armlet against a wall. But since the 1920s it has hosted the Macerata Opera Festival and Musicultura, a festival of popular song and songwriting. Macerata is the birthplace of Matteo Ricci, a Jesuit missionary who founded the Catholic missions in China and introduced the Chinese people to the western sciences.

MACERATA'S SFERISTERIO OPERA

If you stay in Villa Quiete, you must visit the Sferisterio Arena. During opera season you'll enjoy a marvellous show and the summer breeze inside this architectural beauty. Many international artists choose to perform on this stage and every event is not to be missed.

Recanati

Recanati is a charming town that stands on the crest of a solitary hill and develops along its side. From the Torre del Borgo you can admire a beautiful view of the Adriatic Sea and the Sibillini mountains. Recanati is the town of poetry, art and bel canto (beautiful opera voices). It is the hometown of the poet Giacomo Leopardi and the tenor Beniamino Gigli, the refuge chosen by the painter Lorenzo Lotto to work on some of his masterpieces. Recanati warmly welcomes those who want to enjoy the beauties of life.

Loreto

Loreto, felix civitas lauretana, is located on the hills of the Conero Riviera, between the valleys of river Potenza and river Musone. Its Basilica houses the Holy House where the Virgin Mary was born and received the Annunciation. It is the most important Marian shrine in the world and one of the most precious treasures of the Christian tradition. Famous artists contributed to its building, among them Bramante and Sansovino. Here, the painter Lorenzo Lotto spent the last periods of his life painting for the Holy House.
